Job Summary:

The Senior Manager, Facilities & Maintenance is expected to proactively drive implementation of improvements to facilities, maintenance, calibration, security and custodial with the goal to meet business objectives. This role will develop strategies to plan for company growth and maintain current facilities and equipment. He/She develops strategic and tactical plans to ensure that laboratories can meet revenue, turnaround times, uptime and regulatory requirements while providing excellent customer service. The Senior Manager, Facilities & Maintenance will develop and manage budgets and drive project timelines. This position reports to the Director and interfaces with Senior Leadership and Lab Leadership on a regular basis.

Education and experience requirements:

  • 5+ years of related supervisory experience required, 10+ years preferred
  • AA or AS or certified trade license required, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience with laboratory facility infrastructure such as reverse osmosis and de-ionization water systems, steam systems, electrical and emergency electrical systems, water supply and distribution systems, climate control systems, compressed air and vacuum systems, clean rooms etc. preferred
  • Experience in regulated environments preferred

Essential Duties:

  • Lead teams to create a culture of customer support, innovation, and technical expertise
    • Proactively develop and manage budgets to meet long term needs
    • Drive initiatives to meet business objectives and support multiple laboratories at each site
    • Engage employees by holding regular one-on-ones with direct reports and ensuring that personnel receive adequate communication, direction, and training to perform their job functions
  • Develop facility strategies to meet future growth and proactively maintain current systems.
    • Experience in building construction and codes
    • Drive facility projects through individual project management or through those on his/her team to assure that projects are on time and in budget and meet the needs of key stake holders.
    • Develop and manage capital spend and work with contractors and internal resources
    • Lead initiatives to resource and minimize emergency maintenance
  • Proactively lead the Maintenance group to maintain, validate, and purchase equipment with excellent customer service
    • Drive the measurement and reduction of equipment downtime
    • Meet regulatory requirements including managing the preventative maintenance and temperature monitoring systems and assuring no late PMs.
  • Proactively identify, encourage, and assist department in implementing lean principles and process improvement
  • Responsible for the identification of, and planning for, future resource needs; responsible for hiring and termination decisions; oversee training and integrating new employees
  • Organizes and facilitates department meetings
  • Provides guidance, direction, and mentoring to department staff
  • Maintains, monitors, and trends production, performance, and quality metrics of team in alignment with Nelson Labs and department performance goals
  • Manage the Calibration group to assure that required calibrations are on time and meet regulatory needs.
  • Assure that associates have a secure environment at work by strategically managing the Security group and assessing and implementing security improvements.requirements

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a professional office and laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, keyboards, computer mouse, telephones, photocopiers, projectors, and file cabinets.
  • Typically works in an office environment but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting.
  • Required to wear lab appropriate attire and personal protective equipment.
  • May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.

Travel requirements

Regular travel during the business day and out-of-the area and overnight travel will be required.

International travel may be needed.

May require modified work hours to cover travel and work in other time zones.

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to move/traverse 75% of the day and remain in a stationary sitting/standing position at a desk while using a computer, keyboard, computer mouse and phone 25% of the day. This position is not required to move or lift items greater than 45lbs.
  • This position occasionally moves or lifts items greater than 45lbs.
  • Wear personal protective equipment such as hoods, lab coats, safety glasses, goggles, gloves, facemasks, shoe coverings, and respiratory equipment as applicable.
  • Climb up onto and down from equipment.
  • Climb up and down ladder.
  • Able to manipulate small hand tools.
