Description

Description:

The Manufacturing Engineer II will lead the countermeasures for final assembly and final test failures of X-ray tubes and high-voltage power supplies by performing product diagnostics to determine the root cause. This role requires expertise in data analysis and in electrical, vacuum, and mechanical systems, as well as the ability to drive corrective actions in collaboration with design, manufacturing, and quality teams.

Duties:

  • Lead the failure analysis process for X-ray tube and power supply failures from the final assembly and final test processes.
  • Identify and confirm root causes of failures using structured problem-solving methodologies (Fault Tree Analysis, DOE, 8D).
  • Collaborate with design and other engineers and technicians to implement design-for-reliability improvements, and corrective action preventive action plans (CAPA).
  • Use data analysis to track and trend failure and scrap data to identify systemic issues in products and equipment.
  • Support scrap cost-reduction initiatives through process and design improvements.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance technicians to track and resolve equipment issues.
  • Lead the qualification of new equipment or after the equipment has been modified.
  • Author comprehensive technical reports and failure summaries for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to final assembly and final test process technicians.
  • Conduct advanced diagnostics, including:
    • High-voltage load testing.
    • Vacuum integrity testing (helium leak detection, residual gas analysis).
    • Electrical waveform capture and analysis (oscilloscope, HV probes).
    • Thermal and mechanical stress assessments.

Key Competencies:

To perform the job successfully, the individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Strong analytical skills for correlating data, test results, and physical evidence (required).
  • Experience with SPC, DOE, and other statistical analysis methods (required).
  • Experience with statistical analysis software like JMP, R, or Minitab (preferred).
  • Deep understanding of X-ray tube operation, high-voltage power supply design, and vacuum systems (preferred).
  • Proficiency with diagnostic instruments such as oscilloscopes, HV probes, helium leak detectors, and X-ray emission measurement tools (preferred).
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, and engineering change control processes (preferred).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Materials Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment performing failure analysis, implementing countermeasures, and performing data analysis (required).
  • Experience with high-voltage systems, or vacuum-based product troubleshooting (preferred).
