Job Summary:

The leadership role of Technical Sales Manager, Optics is instrumental in leading the culture at Moxtek, building great teams and promoting our values: Communication, Accountability, Cooperation, and Innovation. The Technical Sales Manager, Optics will play a pivotal role in driving the sales of our optical products and solutions. Expertise in optics combined with sales acumen will be essential in effectively communicating the technical aspects of our offerings to clients and ensuring their needs are met, as well as developing the strategy for continued growth and profitability.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Build Great Teams: Develop, mentor, and motivate a high-performing Optics sales team. Lead team members, supporting them in their responsibilities. Establish relationships throughout the organization in order to win together as a Moxtek team.
  • Sales Strategy Development: Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement sales strategies for optics products that align with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify potential customers, understand market trends, and stay updated on industry developments related to optical technologies.
  • Client Engagement: Establish and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients. Understand their technical requirements and challenges, and provide tailored solutions that address their needs. Visit customers and potential customers to assess opportunities (10-20% of time). Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Product Marketing: Collaborate with the Sales team to develop effective strategies, materials, and campaigns to promote optical products and services. Provide technical expertise and support in customer engagements, presentations, and demonstrations. Present demos, posters, or presentations at tradeshows as needed. Train Sales and Marketing on new product releases.
  • Technical Expertise: Possess in-depth knowledge of optical technologies, including: polarizers, lenses, lasers, imaging systems, spectroscopy, and other related areas. Be able to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proposal Development: Work closely with the technical team to create detailed proposals that outline the technical specifications, pricing, and implementation plans for optics solutions.
  • Sales Quotas: Set and achieve sales targets and quotas. Monitor sales performance and take proactive measures to ensure targets are met or exceeded.
  • Negotiations: Lead negotiations with clients to finalize contracts and agreements. Address any concerns or objections raised by clients and work towards mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, engineering, and customer support to ensure seamless execution of sales initiatives and customer satisfaction.
  • Sales Reporting: Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and progress towards targets. Prepare regular sales reports for management review.
  • Market Expansion: Identify opportunities to expand the company's market presence within the optics sector. Explore new verticals and geographical regions for potential business growth.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in optics, physics, engineering, or a related technical field. Advanced degree and MBA is a plus.
  • Proven track record (5-10 years) of successful technical sales experience in the optics industry.
  • Strong understanding of optical technologies, their applications, and market trends.
  • Goal-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Effective leader who can galvanize a team around corporate strategies and goals.
  • Experience creating market assessments, ROIs, product and business roadmaps, executive summaries, product marketing, and prioritizing activities.

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to communicate with customers, employees, management, and business partners at all levels. Adept at articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
