Job Summary:


Monnit, the global leader in remote monitoring solutions, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer. The Mechanical Engineer provides hands-on design engineering expertise to new product development programs and product improvement initiatives. Specific responsibilities include product and tooling design, model-making, prototyping, material selection, design validation, and product design documentation. It is expected that this individual demonstrates the ability to apply advanced engineering principles to complex issues and works effectively with cross-functional teams. The designs and products developed must meet overall product and marketing requirements.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct upfront conceptual design evaluations
  • Design products, tooling and manufacturing processes for new product development from prototypes to scaled manufacturing
  • Lead design decisions with varying levels of technical complexity
  • Ensure quality is built into designs and driven throughout product and process development
  • Participate in other aspects of product development and sustainability such as: solving manufacturing issues, product performance, product improvements, and value engineering
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Work in close support of the marketing department in the analysis of customer need (VOC) and the development of product specifications
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams and other core disciplines (manufacturing and process engineering, quality and marketing)
  • Maintain proper documentation of technical and experimental activities such as product and material specifications and design validation testing
  • Perform other non-routine duties and assignments, as directed

Job Skills & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2-5 years' experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD preferred; knowledge of 3D solid model design tools (i.e. SolidWorks) also preferred
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to material selections, process definitions, qualification testing and data analysis for new product development or product improvement projects
  • Relevant work experience in an R&D, sourcing, manufacturing and product management group
  • R&D experience in the electronic device industry. Knowledge of extrusion, also desired
  • Machine-shop experience
  • Potential to influence and lead cross-functional teams and prioritize and optimize the efforts
  • Experience or skill in industrial design
  • Creative and entrepreneurial spirit
