Job Summary:

Leads X-ray Manufacturing Engineering team in support of X-ray research & development, process engineering, and production support. Additionally, ensures the process and sustaining engineering aspects of all projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet company and customer requirements. Works directly with engineering, logistics, and production management to incorporate new product into manufacturing and supports manufacturing and production control in the continuous improvement of existing product.


Essential Functions:

  • Manages the team by collecting, evaluating, and presenting production yields and identifying corrective actions for deviations in yield performance.
  • Gathers and analyzes data relating to engineering design, manufacturing, and product support requirements.
  • Leads the department in understanding product design and build processes; ensures the use of standard methods and principles of Lean product development, Theory of Constraints and project management.
  • Oversees the timely completion of team tasks and proper documentation of results.
  • Coordinates team evaluation of current processes and designs. Approves projects for improvements based on return on investment and risk.
  • Supports the Materials team with First Article Inspection and communicates with vendors for non-conformity issues and the coordination of material and specification changes.
  • Leads and trains team in the effective use of FMEA, DOE, Gage R&R, GD&T, etc.
  • Participates in the development and execution of company goals regarding business development opportunities, new product development and introduction, Continuous Improvement projects, and manufacturing sustainment activities.
  • Manages the control and changes to production process flow and documentation.
  • Manages maintenance activities including, planning for and executing effective preventative and corrective maintenance on the equipment.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Lead, select, train, and develop the manufacturing engineering team.
  • Interface with other department managers, establishing work priorities and allocations, communicating changes to team and customers (internal and external).
  • Support the project/team leads with resource estimations, delivery, and timing plans.
  • Appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems; identify individual goals and targets, review goals and targets on a quarterly basis; conduct recurring reviews and identify opportunities for improvement of team members; and support team by attending meetings

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and/or science-related discipline
  • Master's degree in organizational leadership or equivalent experience/training preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing/process engineer position
  • 2+ years of project management/team lead experience within a cross-functional development and process engineering team

  • Strong background in applied sciences and process creation/management
  • Strong background in project management and team leadership
  • Strong communication skills. Able to prepare, present, and follow up on tasks and direction given to a team, as well as communicate with other departments and their managers to coordinate resources.
  • Working knowledge of multiple designs and processes, to include X-ray tubes, Silicon Pin Detectors, UHV equipment, braze, epoxy application and cure, electron optics, and high-voltage electronics and fields.
