Job Summary:

The leadership role of the Development Engineering Manager is instrumental in leading the culture and innovation at Moxtek, building great teams, and promoting our values: Communication, Accountability, Cooperation and the Kayaku Spirit. The Development Engineering Manager will collaborate with the leadership team of the X-ray Sources Business Unit, as well as with other core departments at Moxtek to lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of new products. Critical to this success is alignment with Moxtek's financial objectives, timelines, and quality standards. The Development Engineering Manager will work closely with Moxtek's key OEM customers to understand their products and technologies to provide technical solutions to help them succeed.

Essential Functions

  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Set quarterly performance goals, conduct monthly one-on-one reviews to lead in achieving performance KPIs, and provide guidance to enhance personal growth, team capabilities, and project outcomes.
  • Develop strategic initiatives for the Development Engineering department.
  • Create professional development plans to mentor the team's engineers and scientists.
  • Project Management – Resource and Budget
    • Oversee project development, review engineering designs, approve purchase requisitions, and define system testing protocols.
    • Create comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
    • Develop milestone schedules using a phase-gate methodology for "Go/No Go" and pivot decisions throughout the life of the project.
  • Innovation & Technology Development:
    • Drive the development for manufacturability of new engineering technology, as well as employ VAVE solutions and enhancements for current products.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and technological advancements to encourage innovative practices, as well as develop and update the Technology Roadmap for X-ray Sources.
  • Technical Oversight:
    • Implement best practice engineering methods for the Development engineering team.
  • Provide technical leadership, ensuring projects comply with industry standards, regulatory guidelines, and internal procedures.
  • Evaluate team input for complex engineering challenges and drive sound decisions utilizing FMEA, DOE, and other identified disciplines.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with product management, manufacturing, Purchasing, and supply chain, IT, Quality, and Business Development to integrate R&D outputs into commercial products.
    • Foster communication between engineering teams and external stakeholders.
    • Support the engineering efforts needed for Business Development.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Prepare and present technical reports, project updates, dashboards, and research findings to senior leadership.
  • Drive knowledge and improvement through documentation of engineering processes and project outcomes, facilitating transfer to production teams and ensuring compliance with design and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or a related field). Master's degree or higher preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience leading a technical team with proven success delivering to timelines and budget.
  • Demonstrated success in leading engineering projects from concept through to commercialization.

Work Environmental And Physical Demands

  • Job will generally be performed in an office environment, but may require travel to a client's office or production facility.
  • Able to travel both domestically and international as business needs dictate [<15%]
